TESOL Jobs for Teachers

Stories from Teachers Teaching English Overseas

People with previous teaching experience and qualifications - such as teaching degrees and Graduate Diplomas in Teaching – can get great TESOL jobs overseas once they have a TESOL certificate. For teachers who intend to stay in their current job, a TESOL course can help them teach the growing number of school children who don’t count English as their first language.

Tara’s Story

“I had been working as a high school teacher in Australia for 1 year. The public sector had given me contracts ranging from 6 weeks to 6 months. I even travelled from Brisbane to Cairns. For the next 6 months I worked as a supply teacher. Being completely fed-up with the public sector, not being able to get permanent work and living with my mother, I decided it was time for a change.

“I applied to work as an English teacher in Japan. While I was there my mother became sick so I had to come home. When my mum became well I decided I wanted to go back to Japan. To increase my chances of getting employment I decided to do a TESOL course through i-to-i.

“I’ve now been here six months, I live in a rural part of the country and I’m having a fantastic time. Coming back wasn’t what I expected. Last time I was living in the city, but I’ve made some great friends. Want to know what my last two months have been like? I’ve been sailing, swimming in caves, rafting, island hopping, I’ve even climbed Mt. Fuji twice. The best part of all, my kids are beautiful, I love teaching English here.”
