About Our TESOL Graduates

A few of our TESOL graduates have been kind enough to tell us about their TESOL experiences. Here’s what they had to say…

Geoff Whiteley, recent TESOL graduate

“The TESOL option’s appealing because I can have the benefits of complete career change and still use my business experience while teaching business English.

“I spent last weekend doing the classroom course it was a great experience and a real eye opener!

“My most valuable lesson was that, by following the approach that the tutor helped us understand, I can be a TESOL teacher! I started the two days with my head full of uncertainty and ended with a room full of new friends, all positive and enthusiastic about the great opportunity ahead.

“Now that I’ve finished my course, I feel like a whole new world’s opening up …now is my chance to do something I’ll be remembered for.

Sasha Peakall, who took part in the Teach in China Internship

“Taking the plunge to live and work in China on the internship wasn’t that tough a decision to make. I’m passionate about travel and saw this as a great way to travel, earn some money and really get an in-depth look into the culture.

“I love teaching and I even love my apartment squat toilet and all! Now don’t get me wrong things certainly aren’t perfect and it can be extremely lonely being the only foreigner for miles but I’m surviving. I got through those tough few days coming out on the other side with a whole new positive outlook appreciating the fantastic opportunity that I have.”

Fred Wehbe from Melbourne who completed the 120 Hour Combined TESOL Course.

“Now that I have completed my 120 Hour TESOL Course I feel like a bat out of hell all revved up for the challenges ahead!!

“I have succeeded in landing a teaching position in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 1 year. It’s a dream come true for me. I know it is going to be an experience of a lifetime. I would like to tell you that nothing is impossible if you have the will! I am getting ready to saddle up and ride a new adventure.”

Anthony Boyd from New Zealand is en route to the greatest job on earth!

“I’ve been a big dreamer since I was young, always thinking about traveling overseas to foreign lands and experiencing the cultures, people and traditions throughout the world.

“I just recently purchased the 140 Hour TESOL course through i-to-i. It’s been about a month since I started and I’ve been working as hard as I can to get through it. I’m finding my current module really hard. Otherwise I’m really enjoying the whole thing.

“I’ve had the pleasure of part-time teaching in a local language school teaching Korean missionaries how to speak English. It’s great being in a classroom with a great language teacher and taking notes throughout the day. A lot of great resources, people and experiences and it definitely cements the idea of doing this for the rest of my life.

“Teaching English is really one of the greatest jobs on earth and I can’t wait to get my own class and students to build into.”

Daniel Jong swapped Queensland for South Korea!

“I’ve always been interested in the Korean culture. I just never had any means of travelling there. After I finished my university degree, I was dumped into the real world. Like many students before me, all I had was a piece of paper and a ‘huge’ tuition debt.

“After a few months of sitting at home looking for jobs, I decided my first priority was to make money. So I found a job at a chicken factory, where I met my Korean girlfriend.

“We took a holiday to Korea together, and I fell in love with the country. The only trouble was, her visa had expired. I wasn’t in a situation where I could just pick up and leave, but I had my heart set on living in Korea for years. It wasn’t until my girlfriend mentioned English teaching that I realised my dream could actually be possible. So here I am, a teacher!”

Kiwi Elise Boros realized that with TESOL the opportunities are endless!

“My first job teaching English was in France at a Polytech in Lyon. I was 23 when I did this, and now I’m 24 teaching young children and adults in Hong Kong.

“Straight up, teaching overseas really complemented my passion to travel. In fact I have always enjoyed teaching and tutoring in any subject. Since there is such a high demand for English teachers around the world, the opportunities for a wee kiwi globetrotter are endless!

“The fact that I could do a TEFL course in my own time, on the net, from anywhere in the world was an amazing advantage. The idea was simple and the online help was fabulous.”
